The path to a cleaner and healthier future begins with small decisions we make each day. We recognise our duty of care beyond legal and regulatory requirements and continuously strive to find ways to be even more responsible in our use of Earth’s resources. We are committed to reducing our environmental impact as an integral part of our private life, business strategy and operating methods. We hope that we can empower others to do the same.


What we do:

Paper

We minimise the use of paper in the office.
We reuse and recycle all paper where possible.
We do not produce paper brochures or guest information folders.
New from 2018 We seek to buy recycled and recyclable paper products.
New from 2018 We no longer produce leaflets or business cards opting for electronic contact cards instead.

Energy and water

We seek to reduce the amount of energy used as much as possible.
Lights and electrical equipment will be switched off when not in use.
Heating will be adjusted with energy consumption in mind.
We research and consider energy consumption and efficiency of new products and appliances we buy.
New from 2018 We use solely energy saving light bulbs in all our properties, saving 2/3 of energy previously used on lighting.
New from 2018 Our brand new chalet is designed and engineered to be incredibly energy efficient. Thanks to the cutting edge technology implemented in this property, it uses less than 50% of heating oil compared to our previous chalets.
New from 2018 New, heavily insulated hot tub lid with lifter reduces energy required to heat maintain the water temperature by 33%.

Office supplies

We evaluate if the need can be met in another way.
We evaluate if renting/sharing/fixing is an option before purchasing equipment.
We evaluate the environmental impact of any new products/equipment we intend to purchase and try to buy preloved/refurbished where possible.
We favour more environmentally friendly and efficient products wherever possible.
We reuse and recycle everything we are able to.


Transportation

We strive reduce the need to travel, restricting it to necessity trips only.
We maintain our vehicles rigorously to limit emissions and ensure ongoing efficiency.
We use local service providers wherever possible.
New from 2018 We offer 5% discount to all clients who travel to us by train.
New from 2018 We switched to Yokohama BluEarth tyres for all our vehicles saving 10% of fuel.

Produce

We use local, seasonal produce wherever possible.
We use sustainably foraged wild produce.
We consider recyclability and reusability of the packaging when choosing the produce limiting our reliance on single use plastics.
We have strict control of stock management and rotation, minimising food waste.
We prepare all we can from raw ingredients limiting the use of preservatives and unnecessary processing.
New from 2018 We switched to loose leaf Yorkshire Tea to avoid single use plastics found in teabags. We can now compost tea without compromising on the flavour.
New from 2018 We use a water carbonator to make fizzy waters, tonics and soft drinks, reducing both our carbon footprint and plastic waste.

Maintenance and cleaning

We make our cleaning products in house using ingredients as environmentally friendly as possible.
Both our kitchen and bathroom cleaners are biodegradable.
We limit the use of harsh chemicals to absolute minimum and store and dispose of them appropriately.
New from 2018 We limit the use of paper, including kitchen roll, paper towels, tissues. We use recycled paper in all areas of hygiene, cleaning and maintenance.
New from 2018 We make our own dishwashing liquid and laundry detergent, stain remover and fabric softener using environmentally friendly ingredients.

Waste management

We collect, reuse and recycle everything we can. Including, but not limited to: paper, glass, plastics, metal and other household recyclables, batteries, light bulbs, electronics, printer cartridges, etc.
We donate the goods we no longer need.
We do not offer disposables to our clients (mini toiletries, branded pens etc.)
We offer to take care of clients’ recycling while they’re staying with us.
We boycott coffee pods.
We only use licensed and appropriate organisations to dispose of waste.
New from 2018 We use biodegradable bin bags in all our properties.
New from 2018 We compost.

Monitoring and improvement

We comply with and exceed all relevant regulatory requirements.
We continually improve and monitor environmental performance.
We continually improve and reduce environmental impacts.
We incorporate environmental factors into all business decisions.
We increase employee awareness through training.
We review this policy and any related business issues biannually.


Ethics and Culture

We only upgrade our electronics when absolutely necessary (i.e. can no longer be fixed and unable to perform its primary function safely)
We reuse preloved uniform, clothing and fabrics, donating items that are surplus to our requirements.
We always try to fix things before replacing them.
We don’t agree with cruelty in farming. We don’t use Foie Gras or Veal.
We boycott Bluefin Tuna and only serve sustainable fish and seafood.
We accept that every new item we buy comes with cost to both environment and human welfare. We keep that in mind when we make any purchase, big or small. We always try to buy preloved/fair-trade/eco-friendly/ethically and responsibly sourced products to limit our impact.
We buy local produce and goods wherever possible, and use local services to reduce our emissions and support the community we are part of.
We support charities that are close to our hearts both physically and financially.
We always strive to be inclusive, open to discussion and critique, transparent, fair and responsible in every aspect of our business conduct.
We involve our staff in the implementation of our environmental policy and ethical standards, for greater commitment and improved performance.
We update this policy at least once annually in consultation with staff and other stakeholders where necessary.
We provide staff with relevant environmental training.
We work with suppliers, contractors and clients to improve their environmental performance.
